I ironed my shirt on a towel on a nice wood table dining table last night and when i removed towel their were cloudy white marks where have been ironing. The best methods will just dry the ring out – I’ve heard of using an iron (but I’d be afraid to), I’ve never heard of using kitty litter but as long as it was the clay type with no chemicals added that might pit the finish it might work. No, really: Fresh walnuts or Brazil nuts have natural oils that help darken the wood to hide scratches. Water can seep underneath the veneer and soften the glue to the point where the veneer actually starts to loosen at the ends, or it can seep right into the middle where there might be a joint between two pieces of veneer. Use a soft cloth to apply the mixture (while moving in the same direction as the wood grain). Neutralize the wood with a solution made by mixing a pint of water and one heaping tablespoon of baking soda. I think this is true, just that the moisture is a more efficient conductor of heat to the table surface.
Steel wool that has been saturated with lemon oil can be used to gently buff stains out of wood. Because steel wool is abrasive it will remove some of the finish or varnish along with the water stain. If, however, the damage is older or the water has penetrated deep into the wood, then a slightly more drastic solution is called for.
