Diy Doll Bed Plans

One Saturday on a building supply shopping trip for the Momplex, we noticed a different energy in the Home Depot. The dilemma for Chuck and I is slightly different, because whether she chooses the $225 doll bed (yes, she has managed to fall in love with the most expensive bed in the catalog) or the $349 closet (are you kidding me?!!), there is really no way we can justify spending that much money on a piece of doll furniture, regardless of her final decision.

Glue and nail (1 1/4″ nails) the 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 19″ pieces to the bottom of the 11 1/4″ x 19″ bed platform. I had recently made over a desk chair with drop cloth and I had plenty of leftover fabric to upholster the baby doll bed. If the box has short wooden legs attached to the corners of the crate, line up the longer sticks with the wooden legs so the doll bed will sit evenly on the ground when it is done. So glad you shared at Happy Hour Friday, I’ll be featuring your tiny little quilt at this week’s party!

Shopping at Joann isn’t exactly convenient so when I go, I like to take a huge list of everything I need with me. The day I went to find something for the doll bed mattresses, I had a massive list. The spindles were in the way, and it just looked like it needed an extra something, so that’s when I realized this bed needed a mattress. Going the DIY route seemed the most logical way to go. Finding time for the DIY route was another story. I prayed for more cookies – although mom says I may have mixed up praying and wishes, but regardless the doll bed passed! Start by measuring the foam for the mattress, since you will need the mattress to figure out the correct size for the quilt.

Not wanting to be out done by my husbands craftiness I decided that every little girl needed some pretty bedding to go with her American Girl Doll bed. Lay them flat on the table, then trim square so that the top and bottom are flush with the mattress and there is about 4-5″ on either side. And, I ordered some American Doll items for my niece the past two years and get catalogs constantly. You may decide to create thicker tubes for the longer tubes on the bed frame so they are more durable.

If you shop American Girl, you know that a doll bed will cost you approximately $100, which was more than I wanted to spend. Look for a cardboard box in good condition and made of stiff material that can hold some weight. And the missing measurement for the legs at the head of the bed might be 8″. I’m short some cardboard and haven’t cut out yet. But let’s say your baby doll is complaining about a bad back and you want to offer her a life of luxury. All you need to do is place your pillow inside the case and put your newly made dolly bed set on the bed, stand back and admire your handywork!

I then decided it was a fantastic idea (as well as a lovely little project) if the girls chose their own fabrics and we made our own versions of the bed sets. Well, it looks like my cousin’s doll bed passed the test and now it’s ready for lots of dolly activities. I’m a scout leader (3rd grade cub scouts, and kindergarten girl scouts) and struggle to find / adapt projects to be kid-friendly. I should have added elastic to the portion under the mattress but I didn’t want to waste time figuring out the best way to do so. Instead, I folded the ends and added some snaps to keep the fitted sheet in place.
