Cat Urine Damage On Furniture

Two weeks ago, we bought off of Craigslist some nice pre-owned furniture for my daughter’s room. We had a similar problem, and when we talked to cleaning professionals, they told us that if the wood is soaked with cat urine, the smell will never come out 100%. Really try the heavy book trick-you’d be surprised how much comes up. It’s easy to leave some of the urine behind and then pour a cleaner on it and not have it work. Desperate pet owners, not to mention apartment renters who want to get their security deposit back, spend huge amounts every year trying to get rid of stains and that musky, acrid smell of cat urine that fills a room and does not go away. Anytime you are working on a cat urine stain, be sure your cat stays out of the room.

Cats may spray when they perceive a threat to their territory, such as when a new cat enters the home or when outside cats are nearby. Not sure if it was the one that came into heat, or the 15 year old, but once one did it, I saw at leat two others peeing on it cause of the smell. THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this easy inexpensive Cat Urine Formula in 2006. We moved the cat box next to the chair in the living room and put a couple of spray bottles of cleaner in the spot.

I have an off-white carpet (not by choice, it was there when we moved in!) and I will say there was no adverse affects on the color where I sprayed… which of course is stained yellow anyhow from the pee. When a cat urinates on carpet or upholstery, it leaves both a stain and an odor. Avoid cleaning products containing ammonia or vinegar as they smell like urine and can be irritating. By the next day, I could already tell that the smell was gone, even when I got down and smelled the carpet itself.

I am so upset by this because i don’t want my parents saying well you have to get rid of him.. it breaks my heart to even think about that being done.. hes been with me through thick and thin, and i know hes just a cat but hes like my kid.. IF you have any ideas PLEASE help me!! My one cat sometimes gets mad at the other and has gone outside the litter box but they are both alpha males I have to work at there relationship.

Cat spray is the worst thing to get out of anything, had your sofa been material I would have suggested throwing it out as nothing know gets the smell out of cloth if it can’t go into a washer. To note: He does use the litter trays to both pee and poop so there isn’t a problem with the trays, Tubs is a grumpy old girl and can take a pop at him if she feels in the mood to be mean but this isn’t a constant issue. It could have started with a dirty litter, did it once then it just kept happening cause the smell never got out. She suggested buying new litter boxes (due to the smell), and changing the type of litter I used, which I did.

If you cannot rinse the microfiber, then lightly spray with white vinegar (vinegar disinfects, removes scent and the white vinegar smell disappears quickly). This will not only help prevent the cat from attempting to pee on the same spot while the enzyme cleaner does its work; it will stop family members from stepping or sitting on the wet spot. If it’s something like arthritis, you will only need to get a shallower box and put softer litter inside.

If the wood has soaked up large amounts of urine, an ample amount of enzyme-based cleaner may remove the smell, but it may not. The biggest issue is that the puppy apparently thinks that her poop is made of bacon wrapped Twinkies and it is often a race to clean it up before he can get to it… and it predictably makes him very ill afterwards. There are certain spots that they pee n poop worse than others, like right underneath heaters. For best results, choose a bacterial/enzyme cleaner that will remove all parts of the urine stain as well as the odour. I have a steam cleaner and steamed and cleaned, but steamed so much the bottom of the walls started to get too soft.

I still have it and use it on occasion for various reasons: crafting with strong paint, the manure smell in spring from local farms, if it’s too cold outside to let in fresh air, when we have a cold in the house. Unfortunately, this is really only a partial solution because usually the piss will be in unreachable areas so the smell will still be there. The human does not smell it because they get used to smells with hours or days.

Well, it is worth it to try some of the methods mentioned in all the cat books – upsidedown sticky paper, foil, upsidedown plastic carpet runners, etc. This cat is becoming very unhealthy to live with because every where she sits she leaves a dirty spot from the poop on her all of the time. A spraying cat will stand, lift its tail and quiver, then spray small puddles of urine in several consistent locations (see Figure 1). Cats don’t squat to spray, as they do to urinate.

My one other cat bullies a bit and they are both Alpha males so I have to try different things. I know cat pee on furniture has been addressed several times here, but I’m still looking for suggestions on my specific situation.A while ago I made a cover for my old twin-sized feather mattress, put it in a corner, and covered it with pillows, as a sort of a bed-couch. It’s long but maybe it will help someone else with the cat pee curse, so… after the jump! I used the system on a section of living room laminated wood floors that my dog urinated on for a year.

Stressful situations can cause cats to act out by scratching furniture and walls. Once the liquid evaporates dried urine inorganic components return and becomes more difficult to remove. Deana, you should really get yourself a handheld blacklight to help you find the cat spray. So, if you are putting the boxes where the cat hangs out or, worse, eats, they may stop using them. Urine is composed of things that require enzymes to break down its chemical bonds.

Socially, cats who greet often handle things like two neighbors in an argument—although one might back down if he thinks he might get injured—neither individual will ever perceive himself as having lower status than the other. We schedule time for group play an get creative with it. One method for group play is to hold a string toy in each hand along with some ping-pong balls, spin around swinging the string toys around then occasionally let a ping- pong ball fly out and watch the cats go after it!

I know it’s important to get all the smell out or she’ll think it’s a secondary litterbox. Basically this cat is an angel if she gets her full pack in the morning and night, but for the reasons above that doesn’t seem reasonable to me. Maybe some of the other stuff people have recommended would work better than what we used but I do think injecting it deep into the cushion helped. It might be your cat thinks the box smells too much and has started avoiding it. Might be time for a new box. Urine stain cleaner , after you spray it on, even on our off white carpet, the yellow stain is gone in about 10 minutes…you have to invest some money, but it is totally worth it!!!

Simply grab an absorbent sponge and slide it under her, so most of the cat pee catches in the sponge. Sometimes they get all bunched up in the washer and the soap/water can’t penetrate all the way through the entire thing. That doesn’t mean that the cat is necessarily angry, just that they’re trying to express how stressed out they are. With COIT’s guide to removing urine stains, we’ll help you get your carpets, mattresses, and upholstery back in shape.

If you can still see the stain or smell the urine, machine wash the item again and add an enzymatic cleaner (available at pet supply stores) that breaks down pet-waste odors. You might think that the worst spot your cat uses as a litter box is the couch or carpet, but his spraying other surfaces can be just as bad. Treat the wicker furniture with a coat or two of stain and odor resistant primer.

For example, if you have a cat that sleeps in the same spot on your couch every day and you can’t bear to kick him off, try putting down a towel. If color is removed from the test area, do not use Nature’s Miracle® Just for Cats Urine Destroyer on this surface. Enzymatic cleaners use biological enzymes which work to break down the odor-causing phenomes in cat urine. Depending on air circulation, carpets and upholstery may take up to 2 weeks to dry completely. We do not like living with cat pee all over the house so we have discovered some creative ways to curb the problem. She is a cat that worries; she doesn’t like strangers, and hates it when people ring the doorbell!

It is recommended to avoid saturating the fabric of your couch with water or any cleaning solvent as it may leave behind stains. Contrary to how it makes you feel, the cat that pees on your pillow is not doing it out of malice or vindictivness. Step 5 Use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide Get rid of dry stains and odor by mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide, and two squirts of liquid dish soap in a plastic spray bottle.

If your cat is given a clean bill of health, you can then move on to addressing environmental or behavioral issues. Consult the cleaning instructions that came with your furniture before proceeding with any home treatment — even water. Cushions, for example, are made of a high-density foam core, which helps them keep their shape. For pee, make sure to soak up as much of the urine as possible before treating. Unfortunately my cushion covers are sewn to the foam cushion and you can’t take them off without ruining the couch. Two years ago was the first time I pulled the jacket out and it was devoid of cat pee odor.
