Wood has grain; woodfiller does not, so large areas of woodfiller look nothing like the wood that surrounds it. Even when it does take on the color of the stain or finish you use, it will still look like a big, undifferentiated blob on your floor. The wood flour cement has two main strengths: the epoxy itself lasts forever, and you can mix up only as much as you need for each job, so there is no waste. I was getting so tired of all that stupid wood filler that dried hard and kept chipping out of my floor as the temperature changed. Wood filler, a.k.a. wood putty or wood patch, typically comes in two varieties – water-based and solvent-based. Wood putty often comes in tubes or small tubs, depending on the type and the brand. Stainable Wood Filler is designed to fill nail holes, cracks, small gouges and other defects in unfinished wood. When one becomes loose, and you can’t see its anchoring point under the stairs, it may be necessary to work through a ceiling to get at the underside or remove a piece of flooring on a stair landing in order to make the repair. Once you have reached the desired consistency, push the putty into the area you want to fill. Additionally, Minwax® Wood Putty® is colour-matched to the Minwax® Wood Finish stain line. On the positive side, the putty has lasted for a few years without any problems.

I love this product the only thing about the cherry wood putty is that it could be a shade darker. Full-Trowel Filler is thinner than Wood Patch, and designed to spread across the surface of the wood floor. The inserts are available individually at Home depot and probably other home improvement borgs and it would allow you to make the repair without buying anything but epoxy, the insert and a matching machine screw. So it will crush and pulverize the filler and the filler will begin to disintegrate. Get enough wood filler on your tool of choice to overfill your scratch slightly.

However, as the flooring has acclimated to the very dry conditions that the coach is stored in (Phoenician dryness, and soon heat too), each piece has shrunk revealing very thin gaps between each floor board throughout the installation. These products dry to a brittle finish and are almost certain to loosen due to floor movement. That stuff and most any other wood filler paste should come with special warnings…’cause if you’ve never used stuff like that, it’s going to drive you nuts. If you are okay with the gaps you can leave the flooring but there could be a tripping hazard and the floor will constantly expand and contract with the changes in humidity.

Scrape it across the scratch the first time, then, get some more wood filler on your tool and this time, go with the scratch longways. Trial and error mixing several colors of putty on a test piece and comparing before application will ensure success with your color matching. Remember that this putty is only made from sawdust and glue and is not strong enough to connect pieces of wood together.
