Read the owner’s manual for the fireplace insert you are installing and follow the specification.

Vent-free gas fireplace inserts require no chimney or exterior venting and can be placed into an existing fireplace, a wall, or a freestanding cabinet. If the other chimney lacks clay tiles I’d recommend putting the insert in that one so it is serviceable. Set the insert on the cardboard and carefully slide it toward the rear wall of the fireplace.
I ended up painting every part of the fireplace that was already black as well so it would have a uniform sheen so I taped off the wood trim too. So if you want to enjoy your fireplace in the middle of the summer, simply turn down to valve so that you won’t overheat your room! If the liner connection at the insert flue collar is faulty causing the liner to fail, the results can be very messy.
