Believe it or not, I’ve wanted to get these dresser plans finished for over two years! There will be 1/8” spacing between the left and right drawers as well, but since they divide the space remaining, the overhang on the inside edges of your drawer fronts will be different than on the outside edges so I recommend using the outside edges as your guide. The garage shops will always be there, nipping at our heels, and turning out curb furniture. Then, following your measurements for the height of your drawers (specifically your drawer fronts since this will be the widest part), figure out where to position the drawer slides Align them exactly, one on each side, and screw them to the cabinet.
Lastly, once he had all the drawer slides in place he inserted the drawers and attached the face frames. The sliding dovetails are stronger than dados and are considered to be a hallmark of fine handcrafted furniture. Update #2: A few others have asked if we’ve thought about filling that indentation on the inside edge of each dresser for more balance.
You will want to use 3/4-inch plywood with a furniture finish on one side for the front and sides. We live in a 6 year old home and a couple of pots and pan drawers are falling apart. For slideless drawers with integral (rather than false) fronts, the techniques for achieving a flush fit are the same, except that the front should be cut to precise size before completing any drawer joinery. Bottom-mount slides attach to the bottoms of the face frame and the bottoms of the drawers.
Needless to say, if the drawers are not identical width in the front and back, the back has to be narrower (DAMHIK). I’m in love with how the dresser turned out, and also in love with the rug in the nursery! Not every plan that I post has been built and tested, so you are building at your own risk. Each drawer measured just to make sure there is no variance between drawers openings. To allow the drawer to fit in the slides, make the total width of the box one inch smaller than the width of the space of the opening of the dresser. Include measurements of the outer box and decide how many drawers you will have.
Let’s start with problem #2: the existing baseboard, since it’s an issue that anyone would run into with any piece of furniture they’re trying to build-in. Also noted on the diagram below is the relative space each drawer will occupy including the 1/8” spacing on the bottom for each drawer, except for the top drawers which will have an additional 1/8” spacing on the top as well. When it comes to fine furniture I go the traditional route and make some sort of wood guides.
