1,000 Smiles | Day 20 | Cat & Strawberry Pie | Humor

CatCat. Ashley my cat. Day 20 Smile. Isn’t she beautiful? This cat has been with me for fifteen years! Initially I found her as a stray living in the drainage pipe that ran under the sidewalk at my old apartments. At the time, she had 2 kittens. One was vanilla colored and the other a fluffy chocolate – they were adorable. Being feral as she was, each time one would walk on that sidewalk, she’d “Shoo” the kittens back in the drainage pipe for safety. That was ages ago!

Ashley has always been her own little independent spirit, and quite a vocal cat at that!

Long story short in a round about way, she chose “us” as her trusted companions. There was a point where where a shelter was called to assist her and the kittens and get them proper vet care. 48 hours later she appeared back on our patio alone, with a piece of her ear missing – quite alarmed. Evidently they spayed her and dumped her back off, claiming she was feral and too wild. I guess they clip the ear of the cat so people know they’ve been spayed. The kittens did not come back; we were informed they were sick. You can imagine how upsetting the whole matter was!! Demanding answers and confused, she paced our patio for comfort and company. Every night at 8pm Ashley would “visit”, talk at least an hour and then be on her way.

My neighbor Lisa, with 4 cats of her own, attempted to take her in – but Ashley being the “wild cat from the streets” ruled the roost. She came home from work to find all her cats hiding under the bed and Ashley lounging in the center of the living room, lol!

So we took in this lovely little cat and named her Ashley. Literally, little – she’s 6 lbs. I named her Ashley because her fur is the color of campfire ashes.
So now you have her backstory!! The first time she informed me of her food “preferences” were times of my own snacking – on cheese. It started with cheddar, then muenster…provolone…anything that remotely sounds like cheese wrapper coming from the fridge, there is a charcoal furball squawking at my feet. Since it has evolved into any salty, meat or savory-type food, lol. Including crackers and potato chips. Which brings me to the funniest revelation: Strawberry Pie!!

Yes, one night we’d made a strawberry pie and I left my plate on the arm of the couch, nothing left but scraps of the filling. I look over to find this funny cat pictured here, lol!! Leave it to my Princess Cat, never short of surprises, never a dull moment. Today’s Smile #20 goes to my very special cat, Ashley.
