1,000 Smiles | Day 29 | Spirit | Deborah Peters

Jun 5, 2012 by

SpiritSpirit. Day 29 of 1,000 days of smiles on life’s journey. Isn’t he beautiful? I could get lost in this face, in fact I did, many, many photos preceded this one and finally the most intimate one was this gem captured here. There is such a human spirit quality to animals at times :)

This spirit is untamed, wild, unbroken.

We feel his spirit in his expression, the wind and the unsettling sense that only the moment captured is real, the next are spoken for. There’s a life to be lived and he’s letting us in for this very brief moment.

Isn’t that the way of it for all of us?

Depending upon our paths, we become almost protective with our own spirit as well.

We draw the lines, sometimes where they cannot be erased. Or we feel so cemented on our course. And yet, to learn and grow is to let “new” in. We can see only our past, present – future is not written yet. To the one that has nothing yet to learn- their spirit has died on many levels. I see it in Art, we all see it in Life. Life has a way of changing our spirit, when permitted – I keep observing those I admire repeat the same mantra:

“At fifteen my heart was set on learning; at thirty I stood firm; at forty I had no more doubts; at fifty I knew the mandate of heaven; at sixty my ear was obedient; at seventy I could follow my heart’s desire without transgressing the norm.” -Confucius

Though if only we could speed up the wisdom that comes at age 60 & 70 – understand it here in the earlier brackets of life! Maybe it’s time to embrace that we don’t have all the answers we desire – and that’s OK. But rather be content with an open heart and spirit – so there’s room to find them. Today’s Smile post goes to your Spirit, may it be seasoned and yet ever ready open to gather the wisdom that tomorrow has to give.
