1,000 Smiles | Mountain Bike | Day 37 | Deborah Peters
Mountain Bike. The past 2 weekends have been a delight, especially in the morning. Our mountain bikes aren’t new – but the sense of being outdoors in this recreational way definitely is!
The beauty of one’s mountain bike is that it takes you back to your childhood state of mind….
remember that fearlessness and freedom you had on your bike? Before the age of driving – your bike was your ticket to choices, where you could go. I remember riding all over town on my Huffy 10 speed! These days I’ve embraced the mountain bike, and here’s why: the scenic aspect.
Romping through the desert or mountains even on broken-in trails takes one away from the city….away from distractions..away from pollution. Being on a mountain bike also gets you to sights where you’ll see wildlife! That’s the real beauty of the ride! It’s not uncommon to see who you share the desert with as Jack Rabbits, Chuckwallas, Deer & even Javelina (Desert Pig) can be spotted out on your adventure.
For the time on your mountain bike, your mind is forced to only enjoy what is in front you; the trail, turns and rolling hills.
Depending on your trail you’ll find other mountain bikers or hikers, but for the most part, it’s just you and the land. Gone are the cares of you have waiting at work or home. And of course, such rides are always more fun with a friend or two! Especially one with a great eye and camera taking photos like these! Thank you Clifton! Check out his site too; he’s got the skinny on all the hikes and rides you could ever want to take in the Phoenix area! Day 37 of 1,000 days of smiles is dedicated to the mountain bike – may you find space in your world for a bike ride in the near future!
