1,000 Smiles | Day 3 | Baby Birds
Baby Birds. Smile. What a surprise we discovered on this hike today! Woke up to get the morning hike in, now in Arizona the temperatures are heating up. It’s only the first of May; it’s going to be a Loooong summer! If one wishes to be outside at all in Phoenix during this time, the most enjoyable time to be out is 6am-8am or so.
And so we were! Drove to North Mountain Park, grabbed our water bottles and were on our way. It was no different than any other – or so we had thought. About 5 minutes into the hike we hear a bunch of scuffling and squawking, and fairly loud right by our heads! Looking to the left, we realize the noise is coming from this Palo Verde tree. Pretty hidden but not completely disguised, is the art sculpture sitting atop the tree you see in the featured pic! I call them little sculptures because these precious Momma birds are so resourceful when it comes to their nests! You just have to love them! Most nests around here are created from twigs, dryer sheets, lint – candy wrappers – anything shiny! Not only are the nests functional, but they smell good too! (Smile!) Today this time the nest revealed to us is full of at least one little squawker, with lots to say! The sound of that little voice put a new perspective on our hike, reminding us of both of the beautiful landscape about us, and the joy of being able to share it with God’s wonderful living creatures in it. Smile.
