Motivation.

Theory of motivation. How to motivate.

These seem to be the common thread we ponder as we get excited about embarking on new adventures. But then….after the excitement dies down…we slowly slip under..like the goal was too big or maybe because it was uncharted territory, we felt silly for thinking we could achieve….

Does this story of motivation ring true to you? Have you found yourself here, being inspired, ready to charge and then not long into your new venture…old habits come back…the new motivation becomes diluted…and before long your goal/s just evaporate? A lot of experts out there have had their theories on motivation, though Tony Robbins is my personal favorite. He illustrates that you focus on 2 things in life:

1) What you want most.
2) What you want most to avoid.

Did you realize that? That your mind is constantly focusing on those two ideas? I didn’t! The problem here is not only does that consume us, but the truth #2 will always weigh heavier and influence truth #1.

Regarding motivation, what you want to avoid will Always overshadow what you want most.

You may want to avoid fear, or fear of failure. That is the question I am asked most about in my art career and business ventures. “How will you know you will succeed?”

I don’t. However, you know what Won’t get you there. You know if you concentrate on the negative angles, eventually you’ll talk yourself right out of trying at all. This sets you up for failure. You can’t worry about the things you don’t know. You have to concentrate on finding solutions and answers rather on potential problems. These actions carve your success, step by step – which will be many failures. Don’t fool yourself – the most successful people have a path of failures, it’s impossible to achieve success without them. You will find this too, just get comfortable because even a failed attempt – you walk away with knowledge – that in turn, directs your next steps.
