Painting Techniques | WaterLily | Oil Painting

Over the years, creating artwork & painting techniques usually come when one gets more comfortable with their subject, their medium. Art painting should be fun, though at times it’s daunting – even frustrating. Give yourself time to learn and discover! Paintings for sale will come in time; master the craft first.

With “Bliss”, I let everything collide from past experiences. Love for color comes through and my favorite painting technique happened with an accident. Well, a planned accident/experiment, let’s put it that way! The water in which the lotus floats is alluring; the glossy surface reflects objects around it and yet the transparency lets us see through it and what lies below the surface as well. It’s fun and tricky! I let the medium become the subject; playing with thinness and thickness with oil paint, I knew adding some paint thinner/remover would cut through it. It was then just matter of where to do it and how much to achieve this effect and let it dry – what better way to capture the feeling of water?
