Bike shop

Bike shop. If you’ve recently visited any bike shop – you may have noticed an “heir” in the space. You know that feeling almost like you’re a bother?

You don’t know the latest stats on anything or even the latest bike models. Truth is, your bike is at least five years old and for whatever reason it has not had the miles a real avid cyclist’s bike would. Call it life; time, or just maybe the active things you were doing didn’t involve cycling.

So here you are, years later, walking into a bike shop – as vulnerable as the “deer in the headlights” look about you. What are you doing there? You most likely don’t have all those answers. You just know you want to get back into riding and your bike…well..has seen better days. What better place to come than a bike shop, where the experts are going to tell you exactly where to start – hopefully without making you feel stupid.

This is where our story begins regarding the bike shop.

You see we returned a few times back to the original bike shop we purchased our bikes from…only to find we felt outcast…why is this when we were customers? I tell ya, one look at Yelp speaks VOLUMES. A lot of people spoke their mind….wonder if they’re aware of it?

Deciding our time and money could be better spent elsewhere, we checked out another shop not far from the first one – more bad Yelp reviews….ok there’s 2 strikes…..

Then we came to Sunday Cycles Bike Shop. They’re very close to our end of town and here comes the online proof before we ever go in: their page on Yelp has a lot of Love.

The beauty of Yelp and such online reviews – is simply the truth. People don’t go out of their way to say nice things about a business unless the goods were delivered! If you’re doing something right – it’ll be reflected on Yelp!

Joe is the one you’ll most likely meet first, while Dave is near the back of the bike shop, he does the tune ups. We knew this was a different shop when Joe offered to help us get the bike out of the car…not afraid to “sweat for us” as he called it. They did such a great job on my bike – she rides like new! All for $65. The gears shift like butter as they did when she was new. They even cleaned her up, made her all shiny again. Dave replaced a few things for me and warned me of some wear parts I should replace no later than the end of summer, normal stuff like the rubber dry cracking from the heat, age.

The hubby is due for a new mountain bike…and we sat and talked to Joe for a bit just learning about the best options, hard tail or full suspension for him. Got to talking about trails as we’re “easing” back into riding – Joe recommended Reach 11, especially at night – how fun! He even offered us a beer and invited us on a ride, we’ll have to take him up on that! This isn’t your normal bike shop; they’re better! They even have dinner date nights with pizza and movies – with other cyclists! Who does that?! Let alone a bike shop? I had to write this post because Sunday Cycles Bike Shop is a great example of Gary Vaynerchuk’s “Thank you Economy”. Go visit, get a bike or tune up your old one – while meeting a couple of great guys to shoot the breeze with, while recharging your passion for cycling again.

Gotta love stores where you feel important and enjoy the experience.  I’m jealous – wish I could have been there!

Very cool! It’s nice to find a place where the staff is truly happy you came in and will do whatever they can to make whatever your reason to visit a good one. I hate that sometimes certain activities are hard to break into, like if you’re not a super expert you shouldn’t be wasting their time. What kind of faulty logic it that? How do we get good if we can’t start from the beginning?
