However I was looking for some sort of guide rail system for it as circular saws with a guide rail were out of my price range. The Diablo 60t blade is really nice and gives you much smoother cuts than the 18t that comes with the saw. It’s not perfect and some improvements on the design would make it much better. The challenge, however, is how do you make cuts perfectly square each and every time. Obviously it’s important to check that your circular saw is compatible with the guide rail you’re using, particularly if you’re cutting bevels.
I do a lot of work with 4 x 8 sheets of plywood and this would be a great time saver when I’m cutting sheets for shelving and a lot safer and less strain on my back from using the table saw. Then I clamp the guide to the board at both ends, and then the board to the worktable so it doesn’t move around. This might not be a problem for some saws, but if the upper guide was 1/2″ on mine, the saw would not fit flat on the base because the clearance underneath the motor is not sufficient. Another option is to make a homemade circular saw miter cut jig like the one I show you in this post. We can use a miter saw that we must perfectly adjust so that the cutting angles are perfect.
Make the base sheet a little wider than the saw’s shoe, plus 3 in. (the width of the guide strip from step 1). Well, truth is, we all do. A circular saw is perfect for slicing up plywood and other sheet goods so they’re safer to maneuver over a table saw. Cutting a slot big enough accommodate the guard will mitigate the zero clearance aspect of the sled set up, won’t appreciably add to safety and degrade precision. Since most power tool companies offer guide rail systems as an accessory you should check before if the rail system offered comes at least with the most essential features such as an ant-splinter band and non-slip surface protection on the rail.
