Wood Finishing For Marine Use

Many problems with finishing, and particularly with refinishing, are unrelated to the finish itself but derive instead from chemical reactions between metal fasteners, water, and wood. The product is easy to apply and is well suited for decks, docks, patio furniture, siding and any type of exterior wood structures including pressure treated wood. Bleaching oils solve this problem by combining a lightly pigmented semitransparent stain with a bleaching agent. Pure (Clear) color is a pigment-free, clear Monocoat Natural Oil Finish which provides all the characteristics of Monocoat. In latex, it sells Fresh Start All Purpose 100% Acrylic Primer 023, and Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Exterior Primer 169. For the best results, surfaces should be clean, dry and free from any previous wood finishes, this can normally be achieved by a light sanding with a 120 grit sanding paper. My theory as to why this is the case is that Padauk’s colors (as well as many other exotics) are very much soluble in alcohol, and the solvent present in the shellac may actually be pulling some of the wood’s natural colors out of the wood surface and locking them into the lac resin.
