Lately we’ve been getting a lot of requests about dark stained hardwood floors. But if you have an exotic wood floor like Ipe or Jatoba, then we will strongly suggest that they should not be stained for two reasons… 1) they already look nice and dark naturally – these are the woods people try to emulate when they stain oak – so why mess with mother nature, and 2) they have natural oils in them that can make them extremely hard to get a consistent, even look.
It has had a few different laquers and states of epoxy filling but it finally looks like I want it too after the 17 yrs or so since I made it. The other is a pine coffee table I picked up for $5 at the tip and after staining it walnut and brushing on a nasty gloss, I hated it so I stripped it back and decided to do a stain artwork on it, and of course finish it with treatex satin.
I bought one packet of food coloring which included 4 colored vials: yellow, green, blue, and red. Ceilings are 8.5 feet and most of the furniture fabric/stair runners are in the white/beige color group. It contains actual wood stain, so select the color that best matches your existing finish. I think it would be an awesome investment opportunity for someone to start an ebony tree farm in the tropics.
What color stain would you recommend for white oak hardwood floors to go with my Kraftmaid English Toffee color cabinets and Kona Beige silestone countertops. We have investigated claims like that and have so far always found them to be false unless it is a tiny piece of wood. Probably from Middle English hebenyf, ebony wood, from alteration of Late Latin hebeninus, of ebony, from Greek ebeninos, from ebenos, ebony tree, from Egyptian hbny. Birch will act like maple with stain – in other words it can be difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing. GF DYE STAINS can be inter-mixed with regular GF water based stains or GF DYE STAIN REDUCER to create your own custom colors. Gray hardwood flooring is more expensive to achieve as getting the color balance right is a bit tricky (make sure you select someone experienced in this area), and you need to use a water based poly so that that floors don’t yellow. The 2nd most likely reason is that you didn’t wipe off the stain or you let it sit too long.
If your floors are just beat up and you like natural, refinishing natural is your best bet. By definition, a hard wood is from a tree that drops its leaves each year (deciduous), and a soft wood is from an evergreen. It is an excellent furniture wood, and probably the lowest cost wood for most projects. Dark floors are a lot more maintenance than medium or light colored wood floors.
