Before we get into the specifics of what to look for in a tank, we should give a little more insight into the Betta fish behavior and characteristics. The price of glass and acrylic increases rapidly with tank size until it explodes at a certain level where you can’t get standard sizes anymore. If you have large middle feeders like Oscars, Discus, Angels let them have the whole tank strata to themselves unless you have a large tank. Glass tanks cost much less to build, therefore they are cheaper and more common. The filter output is a good way to simulate natural water flow in your tank and the fish like this, but if it’s too powerful, it will stress the fish out. Fluidized filters are also ideal as supplements or for use in stocked fish tanks.
Chemical filtration eliminates the dissolved wastes in the fish tank which a mechanical filter cannot reach. Glass aquaria have been a popular choice for many home and hobbyist aquarists for many years. Check the outside of the tank periodically for any leaks forming in the joints. If the fish tank holds water for 24 hours without developing a leak, it is ready for use.
In the picture below you can see Mike Mosely and my brother Bob installing the base plates for the angle iron, which were cemented (lower 4 feet) and formed the frame for the glass to be inserted. Make sure not to get any oil, detergents or soap products anywhere near the fishtank water as these are all very bad for fish health. High biological loading presents a more complicated tank ecology, which in turn means that equilibrium is easier to upset. After some research, I decided to go with non-pressure treated oak plywood (pre-sanded furniture grade) coated with Sherwin-Williams Tank Clad HS epoxy paint, and fasteners designed for pressure-treated deck lumber.
The right material for your custom aquarium build depends on the design of your aquarium system. Make sure all the fish get away from the scraper and do not scrape against the tank if fish are in the immediate area of the scraper. However, remember that the majority of the weight of a complete tank is the water and decorations , not the tank itself, so you will not save a lot of weight by using an acrylic tank rather than a glass one. Unlike the male, the female can thrive in a large tank with a couple of other females if the tank is large enough.
A second disadvantage is that tempered glass generally cannot be drilled or edges polished after the tempering process is completed. Next you’ll need all the necessary tools that you must be skilled to use so that you can cut the glass or acrylic sheets of the correct sizes and build it yourself. You should get a graph tablet and try and see how much tank you can get into two or three sheets. Because of this, the only distortion you are likely to see is that the fish is slightly misplaced, but the size and color are true. To make this work you’ll need a good quality aquarium safe sealant that does not go off after a few days.
You can tell if your fish are happy and healthy if they respond to your presence by wanting food. C) Fill the tank with tap water, and as much vinegar as practical, but no more than 30% as higher percentages do not seem to be more effective. You can now dismantle the old tank and sell it on. Keep all the best bits of gear from the two tanks and sell the weakest. And not only that, I am going to prove that that the rock-scape itself is actually the primary factor in creating a more natural and balanced tank with enough places for coral placement, in ways that will promote an easier way to appreciate the tank in detail, as well as a whole.
